Restoration

Restoration of paintings, on canvas or wooden panels

Whether on canvas or wood, our interventions aim to resolve problems ranging from reattaching lifted paint to structural issues (tears, faulty relining, jammed parquet flooring, or wood cracks).

Our work focuses on the painted layers to gradually rediscover the original colors and the artist’s style. This can be achieved through simple to complex cleaning processes, which may be sufficient or allow for successive phases of progressive varnish removal, freeing the artwork from warm or gray tones and altering previous restorations. These protocols are developed based on previously collected scientific data.

The entire piece is then, if necessary, retouched or reworked to ensure a harmonious continuity in the interpretation of the artwork, respecting the original material.

Our protocols adhere to the ethical standards applied in the international conservation community. Our interventions are minimalist, using materials compatible with the original and reversible.

We regularly attend training courses to update our techniques, such as the recent use of green solvents, nanogels, lasers, and others…

Restoration of murals and wall paintings

Murals and frescoes exhibit specific types of deterioration: they are often caused by humidity and temperature variations, which can lead to salt efflorescence; and by natural or artificial structural movements of the buildings.

Oil-painted layers present the same problems as easel paintings, while frescoes require a combined approach, addressing both the removal of restoration materials and the preservation of the underlying inorganic material. Therefore, the processes involve two stages, ensuring a specialized technical approach for these constituent materials.
